Description
A rare fusion of Kashmir’s most celebrated arts, this Pashmina muffler is a masterpiece of intricate craftsmanship. Handwoven in the Kani style, its yellow base is adorned with vibrant floral motifs in hues of pink, blue, green, and orange. The borders are further enhanced with delicate Sozni embroidery, executed by hand with fine needlework. This union of Kani weave and Sozni embroidery results in a luxurious yet featherlight muffler, perfect for both everyday elegance and standout fashion statements. Warm, versatile, and timeless, it is a wearable piece of Kashmiri heritage.
About the Craft
Kani weaving is a traditional tapestry-style technique from Kashmir, renowned for its complexity and artistry. The term "kani" refers to the small wooden sticks used in place of a shuttle, each carrying a thread of a different colour. Using these, artisans interlace wefts with extraordinary precision to form floral, paisley, and Mughal-inspired motifs. The process is guided by talim, a coded design script read line by line like musical notation. It is labour-intensive and intellectually demanding, with a single Kani stole or muffler often taking months to complete.
Sozni embroidery, another revered Kashmiri craft, is characterised by delicate patterns of florals, abstracts, or geometrics. Executed with fine threads and slender needles, Sozni requires immense skill and patience—an inch-thick border may take four months to finish. Artisans begin by stamping the design and then embroider over it with carefully chosen colours, creating understated elegance that has defined Kashmiri artistry for centuries.
Pashmina Care
Always dry clean your pure Pashmina for the safest care. If hand washing, use cold water and Pashmina/Cashmere shampoo. Do not wring or twist; gently press the water out. Roll between two clean towels to remove excess moisture and air dry flat, away from direct sunlight.
Store your Pashmina in a clean, dry place. Fold neatly, wrap in a muslin cloth, and store with neem or cedar to protect from moths. With proper care, your Pashmina will last for generations.
Before you receive your Pashmina, Please Note:
Authentic Pashmina is woven and embroidered manually by artisans. Slight irregularities in weave or embroidery are natural signs of handcraft, not flaws. These unique details make your piece truly one of a kind.
Slight variations in colour may appear due to different screen resolutions. While we strive to present images as true to life as possible, the actual shade may differ slightly on your device.
