About Us

Pashmsutra was founded by Ritu Gupta, a 44 year old passionate connoisseur of woven artistry. Her sole aim was to be a part of something that pays homage to India's enduring textile tradition, especially the world of Pashmina. Born and raised in the historic city of Varanasi, a place that breathes handloom and culture, Ritu's passion for handcrafted textiles was sparked at a young age. With a postgraduate degree in computer science and a natural aesthetic of style, she has skillfully combined innovation and tradition to build a brand that embraces the present while honouring the past.

Ritu relocated to the National Capital Region (NCR) after getting married, where she became an integral part of her husband's successful export business. She has been actively and strategically involved in the Pashmina trade for the past few years, developing a nuanced understanding of the sector from the inside out. Her close interactions with craftspeople, weavers, and spinners throughout the Kashmir valley have molded a vision based on sincerity, trust, and creative integrity.

She established Pashmsutra with the specific goal of providing certified G.I.-tagged Kashmiri Pashmina to discerning consumers across the globe after identifying a gap in direct access to authentic Pashmina. As a guarantee of authenticity, provenance, and unparalleled craftsmanship, each item in their collection is meticulously handcrafted and certified by the Craft Development Institute (CDI), Srinagar.

The Pashmsutra atelier not only maintains traditional techniques but empowers future generations of artisans by working hand in hand with their families. We create timeless pieces that appeal to a global audience by thoughtfully collaborating with modern designers as well as traditional maestros to incorporate new sensibilities into age-old weaves.

Pashmsutra tells a tale of craftsmanship, love, and legacy that goes beyond simple luxury. Every element, from the rough terrains of Ladakh and Kashmiri handlooms to your closet, weaves heritage into style.
