Description
Combining classic Kashmiri craftsmanship with contemporary style, this striking blue Pashmina muffler is handblock printed in an exquisite style. Featherlight and silky soft, thanks to its pure Ladakhi Pashmina base, the muffler wraps you in warmth and comfort throughout the year. Delicate handblock designs are stamped onto the surface using conventionally cut blocks and metallic ink, adding a subtle sheen to the deep blue background. The complex yet thoughtful motif placement across the fabric creates rhythm and balance, making this piece versatile—perfect for elevating everyday wear or accenting a celebratory ensemble.
About the Craft
Dating back centuries, handblock printing is one of India’s oldest fabric decoration techniques. Artisans carve intricate designs onto wooden blocks, dip them in natural or metallic pigments, and carefully press them onto fabric. Each impression is done entirely by hand, making the process slow and unique—no two pieces are ever identical.
When practiced on Pashmina, the craft becomes even more demanding, as the delicate weave of handwoven Pashmina requires great precision and gentleness. Unlike machine prints, the slight irregularities in block impressions are a mark of authenticity and craftsmanship, celebrating the handmade soul of the textile.
The art of Pashmina making itself involves meticulous steps. It begins in Ladakh where the down fibre of the Changthangi goat is collected, cleaned, and sorted. Women artisans then hand spin the fibre—a painstaking labour of love. To spin enough fibre for one Pashmina muffler, a single artisan takes at least a month, working 8–10 hours daily and producing only a handful each day. The spun fibre is then woven by men on traditional wooden handlooms into soft and lightweight Pashmina mufflers, later embellished with dyeing, embroidery, or prints.
Pashmina Care
Always dry clean your pure Pashmina for the safest care. If hand washing, use cold water and Pashmina/Cashmere shampoo. Do not wring or twist; gently press the water out. Roll between two clean towels to remove excess moisture and air dry flat, away from direct sunlight.
Store your Pashmina in a clean, dry place. Fold it neatly, wrap it in a muslin cloth, and store it with neem or cedar to protect from moths. With proper care, your Pashmina will last for generations.
Before you receive your Pashmina, Please Note:
Authentic Pashmina is woven and embellished manually by artisans. Slight irregularities in weave or print impressions are natural signs of handcraft, not flaws. These details make your piece truly one of a kind.
Slight variations in colour may appear due to different screen resolutions. While we strive to present images as true to life as possible, the actual shade may differ slightly on your device.
